Typhoo tea

This was a fun commercial to animate. The lips jump out of an airplane and parachute to the ground. I don't think the commercial ever showed here in the states but it was a 30 second spot animated in the 1990's.
There was a small electric motor in the airplane's propeller. I powered it up right before each frame of animation was shot and it gave the prop a "motion blur" effect.

I love this spot. The little dance with her legs at the end is nice.
I've Seen Pics Of The Lips Before But I never Knew That They Were In A Commercial.
The Plane Is Pretty Tight, What's It Made Out Of. I Can't Really Tell But What Are You Doing In That Second Pic? Animating? Is That The Puppet? Is It Really That Small?
Do You Or Kevin Have The Full Spot? That Would Be Pretty Cool To See The Whole Thing. Also What Was The Commercial Advertising? The Whole Thing Does Look Like It Was A Fun Project - M Flem Jr
hello! thanks for visiting my blog :D
wow, cool work, stop motion animators get the most respect from me. I think its probably the hardest medium to animate in! Its also my favourite medium to watch. It has a certain beauty that 2d and 3d doesnt!
Loved the Michael Jackson vid, I think I remember seeing that as a kid. Well done! Very cool blog, will be back :D
The plane was made out of wood by a guy named Jim in our woodshop. It was then spray painted siver and detailed out. In the second picture I'm animating the tiny lips, actually adjusting the mouth so it looks like they're screeming. The puppet in the last shot is the full scale model about 8" tall. It was a commercail about Typhoo Tea that comes in a jar like coffee.
Awesome man!
I think that Ad was shown here in the UK ! Grand work !!!
Thanks, I'm glad somebody remembers seeing it because I couldn't find it on youtube. The lips parachute down and land in a field next to the jar of Typhoo tea.
I saw a Typhoo commercial with a race car in it. Did you work on that one and do you have any photos of it?
We produced that commercial as well. It was called "Racing about". I really liked that one because the main theme was a green race car. I'll look around for some pictures to post.
