"Victorian Manor"

Today's painting, oil on gesso'd masonite, 6 X 9-1/2.
Concept painting.

The idea was to come up with a large estate sized mansion and property that time had forgotten, possibly in one of the southern states near the ocean. A weathered old vacant house that if you walked around inside you'd see worn stairs and hand railngs that showed the character and charm of generations of families and children that had lived there. I went scouting around the city and found a place with interesting architecture to base this painting on. The rest is based on an estate in Savannah Georgia and from imagination.

"House at 330"

This is the house that I grew up in as a kid. I drove by it the other day and the house looks spooky and run down. Oil on board 8X10. (NFS)

I did not study with Richard Schmid, David Leffel or Daniel Green. My influence comes from local retired artist's most of whom have never been recognized by the art community.

"Chili Peppers"

Today's "An oil a day" painting. Chili peppers (5X7) oil on board. SOLD

Mr. Sheen TV commercial

I had the pleasure of animating most of these commercials for this furniture polish campaign. The airplane flies in, lands on the table and Mr. Sheen gets out and walks around on the table top and wipes it with a cloth. Most were 30 second stop motion commercials about five of them altogether.

Robo boxer

This is a shot of my workspace at the old studio. We were commissioned by the guy that came up with the "Soloflex" to sculpt a mechanical boxer. The client was going to market these life size electronic stepper motored robots as workout devices that actually punched back! I was able to see some of the mechanics for the prototype and it looked pretty interesting. To my knowledge it never took off even though I did produce a full sized sculpt of this.

In the background is the old "Clay-balls" wall. We had a game set up where the object was to throw a clay wad at the yellow target. After a few years this wall became quite covered with little balls of Van Aken clay.

I needed to put up the X-mas lights today but I felt more like painting this bulb and it's reflection.

Christmas Raisins

We used a funky old wooden track for the camera moves. The snowman's hat got knocked off and put back on during animation with no frame grabber. When you hear one of the raisins say "There goes the last bus" that was Will Vinton's voice. When you hear the other one say "Hey man, no sweat it's Christmas eve next bus is any minute" that was Anthony Lomolinero, animation director of Spiderman the movie. The one Raisin says "call me a cab" and then Craig Bartlett, director/producer of Hey Arnold says "Hey man you're a cab".

Viking woman

This was a sculpt that I did a few years back. It was done in Van Aken clay for a talented guy (name slips me right now, sorry) that did storyboards for the Simpsons TV show. This figure was used in his own short film that had live action characters mixed with some animation. I believe this girl was used in a dream sequence where one of the male characters in the film was chasing his fantasy female. Can you blame him?
